Having burst onto the scene six years ago with his debut EP Tout ça pour ça—which appeared on the French music scene as a curiosity as unexpected as it was endearing, thanks to his irresistible waltz La Bérézina—Gaétan Nonchalant has since consistently lived up to the promise of his early work. With his debut album, Changement de programme, released in 2023—featuring his rendition of Les Champs de blés with Philippe Katerine and his soft-rock hit Les légumes—he has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices of his generation.

His new album, brilliantly titled Le jazz, will be released on October 9 via Objet Disque. Recorded at La Bergerie—a unique venue in the Corbières region—with Astrobal (producer for Laetitia Sadier, among others), the album exudes freedom, risk-taking, and fun. You’ll find yourself thinking as much of West Coast U.S. pop as of experimental French chanson. Gaétan dreams of the future, sings about his doubts, and unfolds his artistic manifesto across 11 timeless tracks.
